EU funding to Calabria has really worked for the Italian government to consider more improvements to the region.  The European Commission approved a Regional Operational Program which will be continued from the year 2007 to the year 2013.

This program will help Calabria to grow in investments and it will create more employment as per Gothenburg and Lisdon agenda programs.  EU funding to Calabria will result in an annual increase of 1.6 percent of the GDP by 2015 and it also create employment growth to an extent of 0.3 percent.  There will be nearly 43,500 new jobs and women employment is expected to grow by 40 percent and this is really good for the benefit of women. By the year 2015, there is expected to be more improvement from all sectors resulting in GDP growth to a great extent.

The cohesion plan aims at innovation, research and development, information technology and societal development. Calabria has been working very hard for EU funding and it is surely going to see a great development in the coming years. There are also natural resources that help to contribute to the growth of tourism.  Therefore there is a development in both rural areas and also in urban areas.
