Politics in Calabria
Calabrian politics works under the constitutional framework of the country of Italy. The politics of the province of Calabria functions under the presidential form of representative democracy. In this system the head of the government is the president of the regional government. All the executive powers will be with the president of the regional government.
The legislative power in Calabria lies with the Regional Council and the government. The president of the region lasts for a term of five years once he is elected. The president presides the functioning of the regional government consisting of President and the ministers along with a Vice President.
President is chosen by the direct and universal vote. Around 50 members are present in the Regional Council of Calabria. The regional council will be dissolved and fresh elections will be held if in case the president resigns or dies or loses a no confidence vote.
Government
Agazio Loiero leads the present Calabrian government since April 2008 a member of the The Daisy (DL). He once started his own party in 2006 known as Southern Democratic Party (PDM). He became the president after the merger of his party and formed regional Democratic Party for the benefit of the Calabrain people.
